Sparklettes Quilt Finish

I am so excited to share this finish and to have it off my WiP list. I knew I wanted to make this quilt a few years ago and then I had to collect all the right fabrics and wait for it to come up in the priority list. It was made for my middle child. My girl and I are so happy for it to me done. This is #10 on my Q2 FAL list.

Here it is! This is the Sparklettes quilt from the book Fat Quarter Style. I seriously adore this book and have made many patterns from it. I especially love how there are so many size options for each quilt. For this one I used Bella bleached white for the background and Far Far Away 2 by Heather Ross and Cotton and Steel Basics.

This is an in progress shot but it shows off the binding so well I had to include it. I love a fun binding, especially for kid quilts, and these snails sure fit the bill. You can also see the quilting really well here. Amelia, my daughter, requested pink thread and "the waves lines because they make little puffy spots that I can poke with my finger."

I knew I wanted the bed print (which is crazy upside down in this picture) for the back but my favorite LQS didn't have enough for the whole back. I tried some thing fairly rare for me - a pieced backing. I love it! Especially how it ties the front of the quilt into the back.

Just a fun shot where you can see the back, right side up this time, and the binding together. These colors are so fun!

Here it is on her bed. It was fun because she didn't know I was going to finish it up so quickly and I surprised her with it when she came home from school. She has since declared it the "best quilt ever!"

The Boat House Baby Quilt Finish

I'm excited to share this baby quilt finish with you today! This one was super fun and very fast. It is on my Q2 FAL list as #14.

Isn't it cute?! I used the Moda Love quilt pattern - the charm pack version. The fabric is The Boat House by Sweetwater for Moda.

I had so much fun with the quilting for this one. I did straight lines pivoting on the diagonal. I love the texture and movement it makes in the quilt - especially how it all points to the center.

Here's another shot of the quilting and my fun binding fabric. I will definitely have to use this quilting idea again.

Here you can see a shot of the back along with the binding and the front. This flag print is so fun for the back! It's interesting without being overwhelming. As this was a pretty specific commission quilt none of this fabric was stash. It was fun to buy a few new things and play with a line I've been eyeing for a while for this sweet baby boy.

Baable Hat Finish

Since my Q2 FAL list is so long I really need to finish and share something every week if I want to get them all completed. I don't know if that is humanly possible but I was so close with the Baable hat that I chose this one to share first. I worked on it all day and finished it up. Check it out...

Love it! I made my last Baable Hat with fingering weight yarn and while I loved it I was seeing some other people make them with fluffier yarn and liked that too. I love how it fills in the pattern more and looks so warm and cozy.

I also went with worsted weight to make it a bit more slouchy. I love it when I can tuck all my hair into my hats too and not just my noodle. I may be a bit too slouchy but I love it anyway. Also a bonus - I had all this yarn in my stash leftover from a previous project. Hooray for another 100% stash project!

Second Quarter FAL Goals

I did so well crossing things off my list last quarter (12 of 15) that I decided to go with another long list. Several of these are well on their way and should finish quickly but others have just the fabric and pattern pulled. I'm excited to see what comes of this quarter for me. Without further ado and in no particular order - my list...

#1 Norway Quilt - This bunch of awesome is going to become a scrappy Norway quilt with a low volume background. I'm so excited about this and have been planning and collecting for a while.

#2 Vintage Modern quilt - I have been collecting and sitting on this for a while now and I think I finally decided on a pattern! On a Whim from Thimble blossoms has struck my fancy which is funny because she made the original with Vintage Modern.

#3 Blue Swiss Quilt - I have seen many color variations of the Swiss quilt on IG and decided I had to have one in blue (my favorite). So this blue bundle magically landed in my cart and will happen this quarter, I hope.

#4 Horizon Scrappy Swoon - I have had these Horizon by Kate Spain jelly rolls hanging out in my house for a while now and couldn't decide what to do with them. I've seen a few Patchwork Swoon quilts around and decided that was the plan for me!

#5 Flower Girl Quilt - I knew I had to have a fat quarter bundle of Hello Darling when it came out. Then when I saw the Flower Girl pattern I knew they were perfect for each other! Now, to create!

#6 Circuit Quilt - I have made all of my kids three quilts except my oldest. He couldn't decide what he wanted exactly. Then I was sorting through my Alison Glass and he got inspiration. He wanted a scrappy Alison Glass quilt (without the girly colors) and a low volume background with a simple pattern. I think this totally fits the bill! The Circut quilt is in the Fat Quarter Style book.

#7 Plume Quilt - My oldest daughter just transferred over to a queen bed. This calls for a new quilt! I'm using this Meadow Bloom bundle I won in a giveaway. We all pretty excited about this one.

#8 Crochet Hot Pads - We moved within the last month and I found so many stash things that I'd forgotten about, including this yarn. It was intended to be hot pads and so it shall! One a piece.

#9 Baable Hat - This project stalled out about two weeks ago. I am nearly done but lacking motivation since the weather suddenly is beautiful. I'd like it done so I can have my project bag back and cross it off the list.

#10 Sparklettes Quilt - This one was on the to make list for so long! I finally got everything I needed to work on it and basted it today. All that's left is to quilt and bind!

#11 Red Farm Girl Vintage - I joined the IG FGV quilt along when it first started and then fizzled out. When we moved I saw this blocks again and had to make them into something! This quilt will be for me and is a collection of my favorite blocks.

#12 Green Farm Girl Vintage - The rest of the blocks I turned into a quilt for my Mother-In-Law. It's been her turn for a while but I've been lacking inspiration. I love this for her though.

#13 Woven Quilt - This quilt has been all cut out and ready to go for years. I kid you not - YEARS! It is my second oldest wip and I want it finished. I hope it makes it this quarter.

#14 Boat House Quilt - This quilt is a commission and needs to be finished by next month. I finished putting it together yesterday and hope it will be the first thing crossed off my list.

Well, that's it! I'm excited about this list. There are a few more things that I hope to finish but I don't have all the fabric or a firm plan so I left them off the list. We'll see how I do. Linking up with Q2 FAL goals.

Star Surround Quilt Finish!

I am so freaking excited about this one I cannot even tell you!! This quilt was from a quilt along that began the Summer of 2013. I completed it with the deadline but couldn't afford to get it quilting. I am so happy it is finished now and happy to cross another thing off my Q1FAL list!

Isn't it lovely!? This is my favorite quilt to date - and there are a lot of quilts to choose from too. I love the colors and pattern both. The quilting really takes it up a notch too. The backgound, which you can't see here but will later, is an unexpected pop of color. I just love it!

Here's the whole quilt laid out before it was bound. This is from the Star Surround QAL by Melissa from Happy Quilting. The fabric is PB&J by Basic Gray for Moda.

I love the quilting on this one!! This was done by the lovely Ellen of Handmade3D. She has such fun ideas and a great attention for detail. Check her out! She is based in Florida and I'm in Iowa but we mailed the quilt back and forth and it worked wonders.

I especially love the centers of the stars. The quilting is really fun and I love how it's two tone like this as well. This kind of star is what got me wanting to quilt in the first place back when I was 14.

See the backing? Love!! This pop of color is so fun and I love how it contrasts with the front. I love how you can see the quilting so well and how the binding looks with both. I added another one of my Sweetwater tags.

Because I just couldn't resist here's another fun shot of the backing and the quilting. Isn't it lovely?! I love what she did with the stars especially. I'm so happy to have this on my bed in my new house! I only had one queen quilt on my bed before and any additional warmth came from layering twin quilts. They never quite did the job.

Road 15 Mini Finish

I finished another thing from my Q1FAL list. It was pretty perfect timing for this one too because we just moved into our new house and it's house/road themed. I had a lot of fun making this one. Check it out...

I found this cute pattern on the Moda Bake Shop and modified it to the fabric I had on hand. I love the diagonal stripe on this one with the contrasting background. I think it totally adds to the fun of the pixelated heart pattern.

I had a lot of fun quilting this one! I went in the ditch around the squares and then the background was all pebbles. It had been a while since I've done the pebbles and I just love them!

This fabric is so great I am so happy that I kept some for myself. I bought a lot when it first came out but ended up making my mom a quilt and three cushions with it. I saved just enough for a mini for myself.

I love this fabric for the backing and you can really see the thread change here. I did blue and white to match the backgrounds on the front.

I super love this fabric for binding. I should have bought so much more of it! This is also another great shot of the quilting. So much love for the pebbles!!

So we moved into our house last Saturday. We are so in love! We bought it on Tuesday and then used a few days to work on it. I ended up painting the whole house and I'm so happy with my color! I even got my minis hung up these week. I've made four of these pictured, the rest came from swaps. It's so fun and inspiring to look at all this creativity every day!
